Description

This is probably Patricia St. John's most-loved childrens book, and with good reason. It presents and deals with the issues of bitterness, hatred, and unforgiveness in a way that children can understand and relate to. Set in the beautiful Swiss Alps, the story centers around Annette, who feels she can never forgive Lucien, a neighboring boy, for causing her young brother, Danny, to fall down a precipice and break his leg. Annette goes out of her way to make sure everyone else hates Lucien, too. But then some surprising things start to happen to both of them. In the end, hatred and bitterness give way to forgiveness and friendship.

This beautiful, exciting story has blessed generations of children and continues to do so. Along with The Tanglewoods' Secret, Treasures of the Snow has been a continual bestseller since its first publication many years ago, and has been reprinted more than 20 times. It has also been made into a film, which is available in DVD or VHS.

One of my favorite Patricia St. John books! St. John has a beautiful way of weaving a good story with gospel truths in a seamless, natural style. Treasures of the Snow contains adventure, suspense, and beauty as it tells the story of Annette, Lucien, and Dani. When Lucien causes little Dani to get hurt, Annette finds out the hard way that hatred carries miserable consequences with it. Lucien, in his own misery, eventually comes to learn courage and honor and love for others. The power of God's redemption and forgiveness is seen throughout in both Annette's and Lucien's stories. Highly recommended story.
