Patricia St. John tells a beautiful story of Ruth, an eight-year-old girl who struggles to be obedient and to keep her temper. Ruth knows that her responses toward her aunt, who is caring for her and her brother, Philip, are wrong, but she can't seem to keep from getting angry when she feels unfairly treated. Ruth eventually meets a kind vicar who tells her about the Good Shepherd who leads His sheep and teaches them how to trust and obey Him. As Ruth begins to trust the Good Shepherd and to know His love and kindness, she begins to grow out of her temper tantrums and to experience love where she once felt hurt. In the book's climax, an accident with Ruth and Philip's friend, Terry, helps them both see evidence of the Good Shepherd's care in the circumstances of all three children. A lovely story full of gospel truths. Highly recommended for children—and adults too!
