Description

This book is a reprint of the FIRST EDITION (1896) of J. Gregory Mantle's classic work on the Cross. This excellent book has gone through numerous editions, and in recent years has been better known under the title BEYOND HUMILIATION. But not since the first edition has the COMPLETE work been available. From the second edition onwards, every edition of this book has been missing at least two chapters; and Beyond Humiliation was also abridged. Kingsley Press is pleased to be able to give you this opportunity of owning and reading the complete, unabridged work as it came from Dr. Mantle's pen.

Here are a couple of paragraphs from the books which will give you an insight into the subject matter: "Dying to self is the one only way to life in God. The end of self is the one condition of the promised blessing, and he that is not willing to die to things sinful, yea, and to things lawful, if they come between the spirit and God, cannot enter that world of light and joy and peace, provided on this side of heaven's gates, where thoughts and wishes, words and works, delivered from the perverting power of self—revolve round Jesus Christ, as the planets revolve around the central sun"

"It is a law of dynamics that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time, and if we are ignorant of the crucifixion of the self-life as an experimental experience, we cannot be filled with the Holy Spirit. 'If thy heart,' says Arndt in his True Christianity, 'be full of the world, there will be no room for the Spirit of God to enter; for where the one is the other cannot be.' If, on the contrary, we have endorsed our Saviour's work as the destroyer of the works of the devil, and have claimed to the full the benefits of His death and risen life, what hinders the complete and abiding possession of our being by the Holy Spirit but our unbelief?"

Brings back the ancient paths for us to walk in.
Comment
I have read many, many Christian books but this is one of the very best. Mantle describes in practical terms the effect of Romans 6,7,8. I have given away a number of these and recommended it to others for it describes in detail the full purpose of the cross, not only the substitution side but also the representative side where Jesus truly becomes Lord of our lives, not in name only but in reality, and is glorified in and through us. jerry
Advantages
This book is challenging me more than any other I can think of besides the Bible itself. Reading a little each morning and praying and confessing that God would truly slay the mighty beast called self.

Advantages
A book not for the faint hearted, but a book of doing to maturity by the Holy Spirit, am greatly indebted to the likes of Mantle.
Disadvantages
You will have to give up this world to attain the next, God is no respector of persons.
Comment
Every real Christoan should have 1 of these books

I thank the Lord for work such as this book on the pinnacle of the Christian walk to maturity. . death to self, world, and sin. With Watchman Nee books, this is one of my favorites as it was for Leonard Ravenhill. Lets all be sure to stay conformed to the cross so that the fullness of the resurrection life of Jesus may manifest!

I AM HONORED TO WRITE A REVIEW OF J. GREGORY MANTLE'S BOOK "THE WAY OF THE CROSS." I FOUND A FIRST EDITION IN 1985. EACH STEP OF OUR LIFE'S JOURNEY IS ENHANCED BY SUCH AN AUTHOR. INITIALLY, WE ARE TRULY 'BABES IN CHRIST' BUT HE PLANTS AND INWARD HUNGER IN US "FOR MORE OF HIM AS WE MATURE.' I WAS ELATED TO DISCOVER A REPRINT WAS AVAILABLE AT KINGSLEY PRESS, SO NOW I HAVE PRESERVED MY WORN COPY, AND BEGIN AGAIN WITH THE NEW COPY. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE GOLDEN BOOKS OF TRUTH AVAILABLE. REARDLESS OF OUR AGE, WE ARE ALL CALLED TO CONTINE GROWIING IN THE WISDOM OF THE WORD OF GOD AND LEARNING OF THE INTIMACY OF JESUS CHRIST.

There was a hymn by Mantle, "Oh sacred union with the Perfect Mind" that caused me to know more about this author. I am grateful to Kingsley Press for having such a title in stock. I have been using this book each morning for fellowship, prayer and confession, that I might know Him and His Way of the Cross! The chapters are short, and just enough for meditation and feeding!

I have an old, old copy in my library. Each time I read it I underline more and more. Will every word be underlined eventually as my Bible too soon will be?

I came across this book at a particular moment in my life when my heart ached for more of Christ, this book put into words what my heart could not.....
