Harold St. John - Publisher's Foreword

THIS book is easily one of the best Christian biographies I have ever read. Somehow it manages to be exciting, inspiring, challenging, amusing and edifying all at the same time. It makes compelling reading from start to finish—hard to put down once you’ve picked it up.

It was my privilege to meet the author, Patricia St. John, about fifteen years ago. What a charming, gracious, warm-hearted soul she was, full of the joy of living and always abounding in the service of her Saviour. Her wonderful gift as a writer is evidenced by the continuing popularity of her various books, and never was that gift more worthily employed than when she gave to the world the beautiful portrait of her father contained in the following pages. With consummate skill she paints for us an exquisite picture of a radiant saint who dwelt with Christ in the heavenlies, yet who was at the same time eminently human—an earthen vessel full to overflowing with heavenly treasure.

This edition is reprinted from that of 1961 and is the same except for minor revisions in the first and third chapters. These minor revisions have been undertaken by Miss Hazel St. John, Patricia’s older sister, who is delighted that the book is being republished. The only other change is that American spelling and punctuation have been used throughout.

We earnestly hope that the perusal of these pages will inspire a new generation of Christians with a burning desire to diligently search the Scriptures as Harold St. John did, never more to be content with surface reading and shallow study of God’s holy Word.

Special thanks are due to those who contributed to the costs of printing.
